Breakthrough Percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy (PTMC) procedure brings relief to 79yr old patient’s breathing issues at Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai Central
Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, recently achieved a medical feat, successfully treating a 79-year-old patient, Mr. Acharekar, suffering from mitral stenosis, heart failure, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Dr. Parin Sangoi, Interventional Cardiologist, successfully implemented a rarely used but effective cardiac procedure known as Percutaneous Transvenous Mitral Commissurotomy (PTMC), leading to a significant improvement in Mr. Acharekar’s breathing difficulties.
At the same time, Dr. Sulaiman Ladhani, Consultant Pulmonologist, treated the patient’s COPD to further improve his breathing. Despite the optimal care of Mr. Acharekar’s lung condition, his breathing difficulty persisted, requiring a comprehensive, interdisciplinary treatment approach, including the successful PTMC procedure.
Angiography also revealed minor blockages in Mr. Acharekar’s coronary arteries, which were treated with medication. Wockhardt Hospitals’ successful handling of this complex case underscores their commitment to pioneering in healthcare, promoting innovative techniques, and providing comprehensive care for elderly patients.
