United Way Delhi, in collaboration with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) and the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) to the Indian Government, launched “Svasti: A Pioneering Consultation for Mental Health Services Advancement” at NIMHANS, Bengaluru. This remarkable gathering brought together eminent mental health experts from various sectors, including academia, government, private industry, and civil society, to share progressive insights, experiences, and inventive strategies to improve mental health services across different levels.

Derived from the Sanskrit term meaning “universal well-being,” Svasti encapsulated the spirit of the event’s objectives. The consultation probed the intricate challenges of delivering affordable mental health care to the most vulnerable and marginalized communities. It facilitated an exclusive platform for a diverse group of individuals, each committed to different facets of mental health services and target populations.

The initial segment of the discussion focused on the obstacles in accessibility and quality of mental health services, placing particular emphasis on women, children, youth, and informal sector workers. The latter segment concentrated on identifying challenges and formulating recommendations for mental well-being, highlighting the importance of effective policy implementation and recognizing emerging technological advancements.

With unwavering support and dedication, the Svasti consultation concluded with a pledge to implement a comprehensive roadmap for mental health services in India. This united effort aims to create a positive and nurturing environment for individuals grappling with mental health challenges, significantly impacting the nation’s mental health landscape.
