Scotsman takes office as president of Rotary International from 1st July

The new term of Rotary International (RI) for 2023-25 brings into focus two significant Indian Rotarians, Anirudh Roy Chowdhury and T.N. Raju Subramanian, who have been appointed as RI Directors. Alongside the new RI President Gordon McInally, they are committed to confronting global health issues and fostering a culture of diversity and inclusivity.

Chowdhury, an ardent promoter of literacy, is also dedicated to conservation, natural resource protection, and fostering ecological sustainability. Simultaneously, Subramanian, with his vast legal experience, is keen on leveraging Rotary’s platform to address pressing health issues, especially mental health, that are often stigmatized and overlooked.

The team believes that the extensive Rotary network can contribute significantly towards reducing the stigma associated with mental health and fostering understanding and support. They also aim to empower communities to access grants and resources, embrace local solutions, and spur innovation to address climate change and environmental degradation.

“The global pandemic has brought attention to another aspect of health that has been overlooked for too long – mental health. The involvement of Rotary clubs will gradually reduce the stigma, and more and more people will begin to be comfortable around the issue,” Subramanian stated
